BONDI JITTERBUG


We checked out an exhibition at the NSW State Library last week, a collection of photographs by amateur photographer George Caddy. The photos were taken in the late 1930s and 1940s of dancers, locals and gymnasts around Bondi Beach. It was pretty crazy to see the fashions and how much things have changed! One of the best parts was that you could put your head through a board and have your photo taken on the body of a contortionist! Pretty fun...


MODERN TIMES


We went to an exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum called Modern Times - the Untold Story of Modernism in Australia. It looked at how the movement affected Australian culture, in particular, art, design, fashion, advertising and architecture. There is also a walking tour of specific sites in Sydney, and since a lot of these are in Kings Cross and Potts Point, we went and had a look. They were things like the Gazebo Building, El Alamein Fountain, the Metro Theatre and Cafe, and the Coca Cola sign. I think my favourite is the Gazebo Building, and that's not even because of the oh-so-cute Gazebo Wine Garden on the ground floor...
